WinX und MainTor Panorama

office high-rise buildings assessment with Max Dudler, 2nd prize, 2009

DIC MainTor Südareal GmbH gross floor area 56700 sqm

project team: Jens Jakob Happ, Max Dudler

The MainTor area is one of the biggest urban planning projects in Germany and, on an overall gross floor area of 108,000 sqm, offers room for 3000 workplaces and 108 exclusive apartments as well as retail and gastronomy spaces. For two of the high-rise buildings, namely the 100m large WinX and the 60m high panorama, an invited competition was held. Modeled after the grandezza of the 30ies New York skyscrapers, the vertical line is the main design motif for both form and shell. Deep vertical cuts and flat horizontal offsets form the sculpture of the towers. The building shell itself is covered with a fine texture of stone columns and beams that unite and frame the bi-axial window elements two to four stories high. The uprights form the vertically prominent elements. Thus, a lively shadow play created by the varying profile types underlines the slim character of the buildings.
